0

Best dedicated server hosting providers of 2022

0

Forget slow shared hosting – get a server that's literally just for you. Opting for a dedicated server means that you get an entire server to yourself. There's no sharing of CPU time, RAM or bandwidth, which means your website stays responsive at all times.

Shared web hosting can appear to be amazing value, with feature-packed products available for just a few pounds every month. But the reality is often very different, and they're not always the bargains they seem.

Very low prices probably mean the host is cramming more customers onto each server, for instance. Performance will be poor as there aren't enough resources to go around, and the extra load could mean more server problems and downtime.

Dedicated hosting implies that you also get far more control over how the server is configured. You can add and remove software, install updates or tweak all settings, allowing you to optimize the server for your specific needs.

Best of all, dedicated hosting contracts often come with fast and knowledgeable support. The best providers will even monitor your server for issues, like failed services, and can often fix them before you've realized there was a problem.

This kind of power doesn't come cheap, and although there are some good signup deals around, you can easily spend $50-$140 a month and more on just a basic package.

With that kind of investment, it's important to make the right choice. In this article, we're going to highlight five top dedicated hosting providers who you might want to check out first.

1. Inmotion Hosting dedicated hosting

The best web host for dedicated hosting

Reasons to buy
+

Managed or unmanaged options

+

Very affordable

+

30-day money-back guarantee

InMotion Hosting offers a range of dedicated server hosting options, divided between managed and unmanaged server hosting ranges.

All servers comes with SSD storage for faster load times, and use smart routing technology to guarantee 99.999% uptime. As well as being on a Tier-1 network the servers come with multi-layers security protection, and also offer rebootless upgrades as required.

Managed server pricing is very affordable, with the most basic costing $139.99 a month, yet delivers a power suite of hardware specs such as Intel Xeon processor, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD hardrive, and 15TB of data transfer.

Although six different managed server configurations are provided, you can ask for a customized solutions according to your own specifications. All come with the option of running WHM/Cpanel for easier backend administration.

The bare metal server range offers the same specifications as the managed ones above, but come in much cheaper, with the lowest range model mentioned above coming in at just $99.99 a month. As with managed servers, you can also configure your own bare metal server according to your own needs.

Overall, InMotion hosting offers a powerful platform for your dedicated hosting, but at incredibly competitive prices.

2. Hostwinds dedicated server hosting

Powerful and customizable servers

Reasons to buy
+

High-spec servers available

+

Competitive pricing
Reasons to avoid

No control panel as standard

Hostwinds is a capable hosting provider which crams a huge range of features into all its products, from the most basic shared hosting plans to its enterprise-level cloud-based range.

Its dedicated server range may start at just $106 (£76) a month, for instance – but even these baseline products include features that are premium extras elsewhere.

All systems have 1Gbps ports, for instance (some providers start at 100Mbps). Every server is fully managed, ensuring you're not wasting time running operating system updates or other basic maintenance tasks. Hostwinds monitors your server to detect problems as soon as they crop up, and automatic nightly backups ensure you can quickly recover from even the worst of disasters.

Storage is extremely configurable, too. Some servers have four drive bays available, and they can be equipped with any mix of 1TB to 3TB SATA drives, or 120GB to 1TB SSDs. That's considerably more flexible than providers like IONOS, where you can only use SSD drives on some products, and even then they're often available in fixed configurations only (1TB SATA or 800GB SSD, for instance).

There's more good news with the choice of operating system. Not only do Linux fans get a choice of CentOS, Debian, Fedora or Ubuntu, but Windows users can choose Windows 2008, 2012 or 2016 Server for a low $25 – we've seen charges of up to $50 elsewhere.

Put it all together and the Hostwinds dedicated range is refreshingly honest. Servers aren't crippled by low specifications to hit a price point, and yet final costs remain low, with most updates very fairly priced. Well worth a look for anyone who needs a reliable, highly-specified server for a low price.

3. IONOS dedicated server hosting

Great value servers from the German giant

Reasons to buy
+

Very low prices

+

Plesk Onyx control panel included
Reasons to avoid

Setup fee

German-based IONOS is well known as a budget hosting provider, but the company doesn't just offer value for website newbies: its dedicated server range starts at a very low $45 a month for the first six months, then $65.

As you might imagine, IONOS has had to cut a few corners to hit that price point. The cheapest plans are relatively basic, with limited hardware, although network bandwidth got an upgrade with 1Gbit/s. Features like SSD drives and server management (IONOS  updates, monitors and manages the server for you) cost extra. Oh, and there's also a setup fee of at least $50 (entry level plan doesn't have setup fee).

But there are plus points, too, including unlimited bandwidth, bundled Symantec SSL certificates, and the Plesk Onyx server control panel thrown in for free. Overall, even the most limited IONOS dedicated server plan has enough power to handle many tasks. Additionally, you get a personal consultant free of charge.

Demanding users have plenty of paid upgrades to explore, including a faster CPU, more RAM and storage, a bundled backup service and more. Some of these add-ons include more than you might expect, too. Paying $14 a month for management doesn't just mean IONOS  will look after server admin: you also get a website builder, simple analytics, a photo slideshow service, automatic backup and restore for WordPress sites, and more. Sounds like a good deal to us.

4. A2 Hosting dedicated server hosting

Take your website performance to the next level

Reasons to buy
+

Many server speedup technologies

+

cPanel included
Reasons to avoid

Relatively high prices

Opting for dedicated rather than shared hosting will speed up your website in itself, but there's still plenty of room for improvement. A2 Hosting‘s managed server plans blend multiple tricks and technologies to try and ensure you see the best possible performance.

This starts with a powerful set of server components: OPcache and APC may speed up PHP processing by 50%. Memcached holds key MySQL data in RAM for faster retrieval, while mod_pagespeed uses multiple tricks to optimize site content. SPDY and HTTP/2 accelerate page loads even further, and support for technologies like edge side includes and websockets allow more fine-tuned optimizations of your site.

A2 Hosting plans also include Cloudflare's free CDN and its Railgun Optimizer, which “compresses previously uncacheable web objects up to 99.6%” and may result in an average 200% performance increase. In reality you might not see anything like that – the boost will vary greatly, depending on your site – but it's still a technology worth having.

Elsewhere, performance-boosting add-ons include RAID 1 SSD storage of up to 2 x 1TB. Turbo Boost feature is added in higher tiers and those plans cost from $279.99 a month. The Turbo Boost feature replaces Apache with the LiteSpeed server, apparently bringing up to 20x faster page loads, and another add-on can cache the HTML contents of a page, then speedily reload it later without needing to run PHP. We were happy to see cPanel is thrown in, too (it's often a chargeable extra with other hosts).

5. Liquid Web dedicated server hosting

Professional hosting for demanding users

Reasons to buy
+

Powerful features

+

Hugely configurable
Reasons to avoid

High minimum price

Liquid Web is a popular provider of high-end business hosting products ranging from managed WordPress and WooComerce plans, to cloud VPS, dedicated servers and private clouds.

The company's dedicated offerings may look expensive, with a starting price of $199 a month (can be reduced to $169 a month if annual billing is chosen), but they're also far better specified than most of the budget competition.

Even the cheapest dedicated server includes two speedy 240GB SSD drives, for instance. There's also a 1TB SATA backup drive provided, making it easy and convenient to run regular backups.

The plan includes a dedicated IP. Support for Cloudflare CDN should boost your website speeds, and your server can be hosted in one of three data centers (Arizona, Michigan, or the Netherlands).

Most importantly, all dedicated servers are managed by Liquid Web's professional support team. They monitor system health, proactively respond to notifications (for example, they’ll restart a failed service), alongside taking care of installing and updating the operating system. If you have any difficulties, support is available 24/7/365, and the company guarantees a 59 second response time via phone or chat, 30 minutes via ticket and email.

Factor in the wide range of optional add-ons – load balancers, firewalls, VPN – and the range has more than enough power for almost any purpose. While Liquid Web's prices may seem higher than some of the competition, you are absolutely paying for what you get in terms of hardware and support.

There are pilot watches, dive watches, field watches, and dress watches. But the world’s most expensive watches are in a class of their own. Their very raison d’etre appears to be to break world records, catch the eye of top collectors, and encourage millionaires and billionaires, members of royal families, and Hollywood A-listers to empty their pockets.

Hailing from the most expensive watch brands in the world (think Patek Philippe, Rolex, Chopard, and Vacheron Constantin), these watches turn the heads of anyone even mildly interested in timepieces with their exquisite engineering, superb styling, precious stones, precious metals, and their exclusivity—many being one-offs or limited editions.

So if you want to know the most expensive watch in the world with its price, keep reading. We used inflation-adjusted prices to create our list of the world’s most high-end watches ever sold, so you know how much these watches would be worth if they went on the market today.[1]

Patek Philippe is one of the world’s top luxury watch brands, so be prepared to see the name many times on this list. First up, this ultra-rare Patek Philippe world timer—one of only four in existence. In fact, only two versions of the timepiece have ever appeared at auction.

This one is crafted in rose gold with an elegant and highly distinctive guilloché patterned dial. One of the first Patek Philippe creations to incorporate the brand’s dual-crown system, you use one crown to wind the watch and the other to control the city disk for the 24-city timer. The combination of polished and brushed surfaces adds to the sophisticated aura of this one-of-a-kind timekeeper.

This watch already broke a world record as the most expensive watch ever after going on sale at Antiquorum’s Geneva auction in April 2002, where it went for 6.6 million Swiss francs. It was then hardly seen again until it arrived at Christie’s Hong Kong auction house in 2021, further adding to its enigmatic and unattainable air.

Today, it no longer holds the status of the world’s priciest watch, but it remains a highly coveted timepiece. The only platinum reference 1415 HU in the world, this Patek Philippe masterpiece offers serious high-end drama with its monochrome aesthetic. The world-time mechanism is considered Patek Philippe’s first production world timer.

19. Patek Philippe Yellow Gold Calibre 89: $6 million
most expensive watches patek philippe yellow gold calibre 89 – Luxe Digital

Known for some time as the most complicated wristwatch in the world, the Caliber 89 by Patek Philippe is one of only four. The other three are made from pink gold, white gold, and platinum.

Weighing only 1.1 kg, the timepiece features no less than 33 complications, including sunrise and sunset times, world time for 125 cities, a perpetual calendar, split-second chronograph, minute repeater, barometer, altimeter, and compass. No wonder it took nine years to build the movement alone—or that it’s a top contender for the world’s most expensive gold watch.

Despite this impressive engineering, Calibre 89 failed to find an owner during its most recent auction. But we’re sure it won’t stay homeless for long.

Best for: One of the most complicated and highly coveted watches in the world.

18. Rolex Daytona Unicorn Ref. 6265: $6.1 million

most expensive watches rolex daytona unicorn ref 6265 – Luxe Digital

The second most expensive Rolex ever to be sold in public, this timepiece has been making waves ever since Hodinkee first profiled it in 2013. Collectors can’t get their heads around the existence of a white gold vintage Daytona. The Daytona was meant to be an everyday sports watch and so the decision to make it from a material as luxurious as white gold is unconventional, to say the least.

The Rolex Daytona Ref. 6265 was manufactured in 1970 and today comes with a deluxe white gold bracelet. This one-off wonder also features a beautifully contrasting black dial with white gold indexes.

Best for: Demonstrating that if there’s one thing better than gold, it’s white gold.

Many of the world’s most expensive watches are one-offs—or at least incredibly rare. Like this Patek Philippe timepiece, the first and only titanium version of the Reference 5208 Triple Complication wristwatch. The brand very rarely uses titanium, immediately elevating this watch in the eyes of collectors. The timepiece also features a minute repeater, monopusher chronograph, and an instantaneous perpetual calendar.

The blue watch face has a hand-guilloched ‘Carbon’ motif, while a display back allows the lucky owner to admire the impeccable craftsmanship at work.

This important precursor of future Patek Philippe wristwatches created quite a stir when it was first launched in the 1940s. Its case design was indisputably avant-garde in style and proportions—rounder, larger, and with elongated and slightly curved lugs.

Despite the efforts of horology experts to uncover the details, not much is known about this watch, except that it was one of just two Ref. 1527 timepieces. It features a chronograph with date and moon phases. The movement also includes 23 jewels. The buckle is made from 18k gold which, along with the watch’s rarity, partly explains the reason why it fetched such a high price when sold at auction.

Best for: A timepiece with an air of mystery and an aura of the unexpected.

We’ve already explored the Calibre 89, aka the most complicated wristwatch in the world, and the timepiece returns again here as the 15th priciest watch ever sold, this time in white gold.

Patek Philippe first created the watch for the brand’s 150th anniversary and incorporates an almost outrageous number of complications, including a second time-zone, sunrise and sunset timer, perpetual calendar, century leap year correction, solstice and zodiac indication, and an unusual date of Easter indication. This latter complication is particularly noteworthy—complicated to create given it’s determined astronomically and varies each year.

With the extensive engineering going on inside the case, it’s no wonder that this astronomical watch is an impressive 88.2 mm in diameter and 41.07 mm thick—a true behemoth.

Best for: More complications than you could ever possibly need.

Known as a ‘grail’ watch, highly covetable and superbly desirable, this Patek Philippe timepiece is one of the most mythical and legendary in the horological world—befitting of a brand that has created some of the best men’s watches of all time.

The watch is known as the Silk Road 2523. Its standout feature is a dial featuring a map of Eurasia. It also boasts a world time complication, dual crown, 41-city ring, and is both elaborate and instantly iconic at once. Only three yellow gold 2423 world timers with this particular dial exist—hence why collectors are willing to pay over $7.5 million to own one.

Best for: Billionaire travellers and bling-hungry jetsetters, off on a tour of Europe.

This Patek Philippe timepiece is based on the brand’s reference 5016 and is an exquisitely complicated and wondrously high-end creation. While the Ref. 5016 fell out of production around 2011, the company decided to resurrect it for this occasion. The reference is already incredibly rare and this one-off is totally unique, hence the willingness of watch fanatics to dig deep to secure it.

The timepiece features a minute repeater, a tourbillon, and a perpetual calendar with a retrograde date—three of the most cherished watch complications. It also comes with a distinctive blue dial made of Grand-Feu enamel and the movement is housed inside a small 36.8 mm case.

Best for: The rebirth of a classic, brought back to life for one lucky owner.

A commission for a private client, this Vacheron Constantin timepiece really is the most complicated watch in the world and includes 57 different complications, made up of 2826 individual components and 242 jewels. Ten of those complications were brand new horological inventions at the time of manufacture.

Some of the most exceptional functions? The Judaic calendar, a ‘night mode’, and a double retrograde split-seconds chronograph. The case is fairly simple and unfussy, allowing the peerless mechanics to take centre-stage. It seems appropriate that this watch sold for around $8 million given that it took three watchmakers 8 years to design and create.

Best for: The last word in intricate, ornate, and ridiculously complicated timepieces.

As this list proves, Patek Philippe is particularly skilled at creating the kind of watches that collectors will fight over and this double-crown world timer is yet another example.

It features the Heures Universelles world time system as patented in the 1930s by horological icon, Louis Cottier. And it’s also the only known reference 2523 to feature the signature of both Patek Philippe and Gobbi Milano.

Part of a limited edition four-piece series, the main appeal of this particular watch lies in its case. Made with a high-grade stainless steel case, it distinguishes itself from other Patek Philippe luxury watches, typically made of yellow or rose gold.

First introduced in 1941, the Patek Philippe Ref.1518 made horology headlines as the first-ever perpetual calendar and chronograph—yet another reason why this watch impresses collectors. And while you might think steel would make a watch less valuable than gold, it’s hard to find high-end watches in this material. Rarity always pushes prices up.

WHAT MAKES WATCHES SO EXPENSIVE?
The primary factors that determine how much a luxury timepiece is worth are:

Technology
Craftsmanship
Materials used
Brand
These factors all work in conjunction to determine the ultimate value of a watch. The precision, craftsmanship, labour and skill that go into luxury watches is what sets them apart from other watches. Rolex watches, for example, are all handle assembled and the brand has their own foundry that makes the gold they use in their watches.

11 Different Types Of Engagement Ring Styles

0

Diamond rings can be classified in many ways, but the classifications used most often are by design, type of setting, shape and cut of the diamonds, and metal used to make the band. Let’s take a look at each of these types of diamond rings.

Diamond Ring Types by Design and Number of Stones

solitaire-diamond-ring

Solitaire diamond ring

The most often seen diamond ring types are solitaire rings, rings with side stones, and pave diamond rings.

Solitaire rings are made with a single diamond in the setting, usually held by prongs, although other mountings, such as the bezel setting or tension setting, are also used.

Rings with side stones have one center diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds.

One of the most popular variations of side-stone rings is the three-stone ring, which has one center diamond and two stones on each of its sides.

Click here to see a selection of diamond ring settings and their prices.

three-stone-diamond-ring

Pave rings are studded with small diamonds attached to the band with tiny metal prongs that look like droplets of metal. Depending on its design, such a ring can be made only with small pave-set diamonds or it could feature a bigger single stone, or a center diamond with side stones.

Diamond Rings by Type of Setting

There are different types of settings used to hold a diamond in a ring, and here are the most popular ones:

Prong settings hold the diamond with metal projections, usually four or six of them, although settings with more prongs are also made.

prong-setting-diamond-ring

Typical prong setting

Bezel settings surround the stone with a band of metal, fully or partially. Settings where only part of the stone’s outer edge is held by a metal band are referred to as partial bezel settings.

Invisible settings hold diamonds in a metal framework that is underneath the stone and is not visible from the top of the ring.

The chocolate diamonds in this ring are held by an invisible setting, which is underneath them.

Channel settings, as the name suggests, hold diamonds in a channel made in the ring’s band.

Tension settings hold the diamond between the two ends of the band by applying pressure, not by using prongs, bezels, or another type of mounting device.

This is how a tension setting holds a diamond by applying pressure to it.

Diamond Rings by Diamond Shape and Cut

Diamond shape refers to the profile of the stone, while the term “diamond cut” is more specific and is used to refer to the number, shape, and alignment of the stone’s facets.

Round diamonds are by far the most popular. The classic round cut was designed to maximize the stone’s brilliance, which surpasses that of stones with other cuts.

Oval cuts are also popular, although not as much as round ones. There are other popular cuts that are derived from the oval cut: the marquise cut (whose two ends are sharp instead of rounded), the pear cut (basically an oval cut with one sharp end), and the heart cut (an oval cut with one sharp end and a cleft on the opposite rounded end).

marquise-cut-diamond

pear-cut-diamond

Rectangular cuts include the popular princess cut, the emerald cut (a rectangular cut with truncated corners) and the Asscher cut (a square emerald cut), the cushion cut (with rounded instead of sharp or cut corners), and the radiant cut.

The classic triangular cut is referred to as trillion cut, or trilliant cut. The sides of this cut’s triangular profile can be straight or slightly rounded.

Types of Diamond Rings by Metal

The most often used metals used to make diamond rings are platinum, white gold, and yellow gold.

Platinum rings are among the most popular to set diamonds in because of the color and durability of the metal.

White gold diamond rings are also very popular, as they are relatively affordable while still being pretty durable.

Yellow gold rings wear out more quickly than white gold or platinum ones, as yellow gold is relatively softer. This material is an especially good choice for diamonds of lower color grades because the yellow tints in such stones are made less visible by the yellow color of the ring.

Types of Diamond Rings by Style

Thick vs. Thin Diamond Bands

If you are selecting a ring, it is important to consider how thick its band is, for a couple of reasons:

First, along with the type of metal used, band thickness is one of the factors affecting how hard it would be to resize the ring. Thicker bands can be hard to work with, especially if they are made of a very hard metal.

Second, how thin a band is determines how quickly it will wear out or how easily it will bend. This is especially true if the band is made of a softer metal such as yellow gold.

Wide vs. Narrow Diamond Rings

Rings with bands that are too wide can make it hard for you to move your finger. Bands that are too narrow, on the other hand, can bend or break easily.

Bigger vs. Smaller Diamonds in Rings

It is important to consider the size of the diamonds in relation to the size of the ring they are attached to.

Bigger diamonds attract more attention, but you should make sure that the ring is big enough for them. Otherwise, the piece may not be well balanced and move easily when you wear it.

Smaller diamonds are cheaper per carat, but you should ensure that they are not too small for their setting. Otherwise, they may be loose and might fall off.

Where to Buy a Diamond Ring?

We recommend James Allen (read review) because you can take a 360-degree look at any stone before having it set in a ring.

Recommendations for education and training: Categories A and C (1995)

THESE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE OUTDATED

FELASA recommendations on the education and training of persons working with laboratory animals: Categories A and C: Reports of the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations Working Group on Education accepted by the FELASA Board of Management. M. S. Wilson; E. Berge; J. Maess; G. Mahouy; I. Natoff; T. Nevalainen; l. F. M. van Zutphen; P. Zaninelli. Lab Anim. 1995 Apr;29(2):121-131.

Appropriate education and training of all those engaged in the use of live vertebrate animals for scientific purposes is required by both the Council of Europe (Convention ETS 123, Article 26) and the European Union (Council Directive 86/609/EEC, Article 14).

FELASA has elaborated these requirements in practical detail, for this purpose dividing those involved into 4 Categories (although these Categories need not be mutually exclusive): Category A-persons taking care of animals; Category B-persons carrying out animal experiments; Category C-persons responsible for directing animal experiments; Category D-Iaboratory animal science specialists. FELASA has based its recommendations on functions – which are common to all, rather than on nomenclature – which differs from country to country.

The teaching syllabus published here in detail for Category C provides a common basis for other Categories where functions are similar, while the section ‘Animal care/husbandry’ of Category A Level 1 should satisfy the requirement of Article 14 of the Directive that ‘persons carrying out or supervising the conduct of experiments’ (Categories Band C) ‘shall … be capable of handling and taking care of laboratory animals’.

Practical, theoretical and ethical aspects should be treated for all Categories. Refinement of techniques, reduction in the number of animals used and replacement wherever possible by non-sentient systems should be guiding principles. The FELASA recommendations for Categories A and C are presented here.
